Chu Shong Tin teaching Mark Spence - Biu Jee Hook Punch

Chi Sau Club is a Martial Arts School that teaches Wing Chun in Surry Hills, Sydney Australia. Chi Sau Club was formed in 2007 following the passing of Grandmaster Jim Fung. Grandmaster Jim Fung was a student of Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin, who was also one of the top students of the legendary Ip Man.

The aim of Chi Sau Club is to pass on the teachings of Chu Shong Tin in a pure and unadulterated fashion.

To the best of my ability I run my school exactly as Chu Shong Tin ran his in Hong Kong. This is quite different to schools in western countries. My emphasis is on students attaining Nim Tau. This requires long periods of time practicing a standing meditation and receiving instruction on how to “sing” the spine to achieve the Nim Tau state. Once students have obtained an appropriate level of skill they will be taught to generate mind force (or Nim Lik) in each of the form sets. Fighting reflexes are further developed through Chi Sau (or sticking hands) training.

Question. CST adjusts your shoulder here. Was he looking for your force not to "lift", but pivot across more or was it more of loosening, disengaging the shoulder so it seats? To me it seems more as if he was looking for horizontal energy when we have a tendency to try to "lift"... but it's hard to tell without "feeling".

Thanks.

Sifu Mark,
Excuse me, I'm using the google translator ....I know that the context of training is important, but are you only using the turn of your waist to transmit the mass in movement? Is not the shoulder or elbow joint used? ..
thanks for everything. greetings from Argentina

...all Chu's moves require the person being done to to have no stance, no structure, no grounding....and it fascinated the whole Caucasian world....thereafter, they will bring this "knowledge" back home, opening school and start teaching party-tricks version of Wing Chun....thinking that they have the real McCoy!! BTW, the technique in question as says on the title has nothing to apply the "hook".
