I watched this live about 20 years ago now. I was just a little kid at the time, but It must have really struck a chord with me then without me realizing it, because now all of these years later, I get really emotional when I hear this song. It has something to do with the human connectivity that is brought forth through the Olympic Games, but obviously through the beauty of the song and the magical voice of Bocelli. This was performed during the closing ceremonies in Italy. Every time I hear this song, I feel connected to something. I know that there is something out there connecting everyone. This moment here made me believe in that. I can’t explain it, but I believe it.

I have always loved the Olympics. I even had dreams of working for them in some way, but not all dreams come true. When I saw this specific Olympics, I was mesmerized as there was just something about this one. I envisioned what it would be like to live in Torino (Turin). I remember wishing that this specific Olympic game wouldn't end. Guess it all started with the little girl singing the Italian national anthem, which I'm not sure I had heard before then. I was essentially glued to the television for the next 16 days. And how fitting was it that Italy received the gold medal for the final medal. Georgio Di Centa to receive the medal from his sister. Then came these closing ceremonies, and I started to hear this song. You have to understand, music is very powerful to me, and sometimes a song will just hit the heart and this one began as I watched Andrea Bocelli sing. I'm pretty sure I cried through the entire thing. I did swim in high school and loved tennis but was never going to be a big athlete let alone get here, so it's always meant something special to me. I can't thank the Olympic channel enough for having this, to be relived, especially without the commentators talking over the songs. I'm not sure we'll ever get a presentation again as we did in Torino, but lets hope the Olympics never end. It truly is 17 days where the world puts aside most differences and lets people compete together.
