TVM EGA Monitor Warehouse Find

I super lucked out the other day when I found this TVM EGA Monitor in a warehouse full of stuff. It was kinda like my own personal local Computer Reset scenario ... a warehouse full of stuff, about 10% computer related, with lots of goodies including this EGA monitor (the rest I will try to show in a future video)

The thing plugged into the top of the tube is called a Flyback Transformer. Because if you touch it when it's charged, you'll fly backwards across the room lol.

I had an EGA monitor once. My own EGA story began around 1988, our business bought a PC system, including the EGA. I don't recall the brand & model of the monitor. A few years later, perhaps in the early 1990's, that EGA monitor died, I opened the case up, had no idea at the time what was wrong. Eventually it got tossed out, although I kept the plastic tilting base, which I still have. I also kept the EGA ISA card, which eventually I stripped it of its RAM chips to put somewhere else. I still have the card although it's damaged from desoldering the memory off back then. The memory chips I can't recall what machine I placed them in. We never bought another EGA, as VGA was starting to appear more & also getting cheaper. Today I know a thing or two about repairing monitors, so had I kept that EGA, perhaps I may have eventually fixed it & have it in my collection. I have several VGA's & NTSC composites (for my C-64 & VCR's) at the moment.

The case looks very rough, but evidently the CRT is still working perfectly.

Your channel just keeps getting better. I wish I could speak a language that isn’t my first as fluently as you do.

Thanks for this wonderful trip down random access memory lane. I used to work for the local IBM PC dealership, at the time when they were transitioning from the XT and AT to the PS/2 line, so there were many of both machines still in service, and millions of clones of course. And of course I remember the EGA being the cool new kid on the block, but not for long as VGA came along with the PS/2s not too long after its introduction. That may account for the scarcity of all things EGA; I remember seeing a demo of a photo displayed on a VGA monitor and being blown away at how "photorealistic" it seemed to be, so who would want EGA after that.
Having said that, I would give literally **anything** to have an XT and an AT, both kitted out to the max with real IBM upgrade options. A man can dream...

You're so lucky to have one of those monitors. It's a real treasure.

A true EGA monitor has always alluded me. I've come across plenty of VGA, CGA, and monochrome of all types

Nice score! I would love to score an EGA monitor or two, but like you said, they are hard to find. All my systems 286 and up all use VGA for this reason. Only my original IBM systems use Hercules or CGA graphics. I have two IBM 5153 CGA monitors, one came with a system I picked up the other was one I was able to repair that was purchased cheap after being dropped. CGA and mono CRTs seem to be more common when it comes to finding pre VGA CRTs.

Seems all EGA monitors are unicorns. I have never come across one and have dug through a lot of old "junk" computer piles searching for one.

Brings back some fond memories. One of my favorite games of the Era was Accolades' Grand Prix. Could run it straight from the disk and it was great. But only got to experience it in four colors.
