This video is an awesome simple example of what parts will drive the stepper motors. Thank you very much.

Brilliant. I'm hoping I'll never need it but so good to have the basic idea of what's actually going on and if I ever need to troubleshoot I won't be quite so scared. Thank you very much Roger. Jim

Hi Roger, Just a couple of things I am confused about. I was under the impression that switch 4 on the stepper driver was to set the motor to half current when it was not moving and reduce heating. The other is I don't think the controller is a smooth stepper by Warp 9. Looking forward to seeing that monster machine in action. Cheers Dave.

very helpful vid...thanks for doing it. I am starting the design phase of building a large CNC using NEMA 23's or maybe 24's. After watching several videos on the subject, I am finding one very important piece of info being left out, and that is what is needed to wire up 4 stepper motors, 1 for Z, 1 for X, and 2 for Y. Since I have no desire to build a single motor CNC, can you direct me perhaps to a vid that shows what all I need for a 4 motor set-up?

The only wire you didn't explain was the one with an eyelet going from the Smooth Stepper to something offscreen. Where is it going? Thank you

Hello Roger. Thanks a lot for all the information you give away for free. I've watching your videos for days now.
Why not you use a SMC 5-5-N on this awesome machine?
Greetings from Portugal

Strange I couldn't get it to work but I'm using a NVCM6V2.1 board with TB6600. Don't have lights on board like you but motor locks up so it is holding.

Currently I am using dm542 and nema 17!
What pulse per revolution should I choose for nema17?
And does more pulse means more speed?

Nice work, sir, But one question remains unanswered after listening carefully to your explanations. If the engine manufacturer specifies the value + and - of the wires, and you take this into account for the connection, how can I determine it without this information (from the fabicant).
Thanks,
