Forest macro in the rain: Don't let bad weather put you off! (Lighting, ideas, settings tutorial)

In this week's macro photography tutorial, I explain why braving rain and bad weather can be a great way of getting macro photos. I dive deep into the forests of Scotland with my hood up to get wet-weather photos, showing the compositions, settings and lighting techniques I use to capture striking images.

I also show my tips on how to keep your camera dry when it's raining, as well as how to keep your knees dry and comfortable when you're kneeling on the ground all day.

Nice video. There is no bad weather to photograph. All you need is the will. I say hello.

Thank you Andrew, I find your videos super relaxing and inspiring.
Having moved from the Pacific Northwest to Mississippi has been rough. I was hopeful that there are photos to be had anywhere and that it was just going to be different. Honestly after a year of trying I realized that there are some photos to be had, but opportunity is very different here.
So I live vicariously thru YouTube videos like yours when I get in a bad spot.
Thank you.

Some great ideas there! The thing I love most about shooting on a rainy day is it puts off other people from going out, so you get more places to yourself.

Brilliant set of photos, and I like the colour you get, I'd be interested in a processing video of some of these images to see how you get those colours

This video is great. I came here from a CNET article about how to edit 8k and really loved the photography here and explanation

There is no bad weather, just non weather sealed equipment 😉.
Thanks! Your video motivates to use the next rain shower for some photo session outside. Especially to go for natural light rather than flashing everything away.

I really enjoy your videos Andrew. Loved the tip about spraying the water by the flash. I liked the look of that candle as well. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Awesome shots! If you are going to do a lot of Macro in the rain then using the ancient Pentax brand with Pentax lenses then rain is a non issue. The best weather proof camera on the market today!!

I've been editing all day, catching up, and it's coming on to 'happy hour' but the beer will still be here, I am now inspired to get out there and image some mini landscapes. Thanks for the invitation! Off I go ...

The moment of doubt, thinking of that tea and biscuit.. 😂 A little too relatable haha. But once you're home, editing the photos, that tea and biscuit will be so much more enjoyable, after all.

Great video. Thanks. Maybe bring a little tarp to set when you need a break from the rain? Can you focus stack when you are using flash?
