Bubonic plague is actually alive and well in Africa, the Americas, and Asia, it's not uncommon for wild mice or other rodents to have it. And since the type of plague mostly just depends on how you're infected you can get pneumonic plague if you clean up rodent droppings and inhale any of the dust produced. So wear a breathing mask to prevent that, and be wary of wild rodents in general.
