My pansies overwintered here in Michigan! I was so happy to see little flowers popping out of the snow in March!

Thanks for that tip about keeping seed trays in the cool dark! I had no idea.

This summer I will grow pansies from seed for the first time. In SC they can be planted in the fall and will overwinter which is great because box stores try to sell them here at the same time they sell them in Ohio. Thank you for passing on the information about germinating pansies in the dark. I would never have guessed that.

Glad to see this video, as I was super intrigued by the pansies in your spring tour. Never ever seem them look so good and full before.

Thanks so much for this! I always wondered why I couldn't recreate this one great pansy window box I had years ago. I think I just accidentally planted them out early and they loved it and grew beautifully for me. Any advice for a fall-early winter pansy container (if you don't expect any early freezes)?

I started pansies in my aerogarden last year. Didn't know they need darkness to germinate...somehow they still germinated and grew, but it took forever! Now I know why! This is am awesome video. Thank you! One of my favorite flowers.

I have never heard of Pansy sugar. So off to a google rabbit hole I went! 😂
Do you sift the flower bits out after pulsing them with the sugar? You have inspired me to try something new 😊

I was interested to see that you plant them so densely. I will try that next year. I have a good part shade spot for pansies.

First time groeing from seed this year. My pansies have sprouted so little seedlings right now since I did cover them in darkness for like two weeks. I didn’t realize I could move them outside eight weeks prior to the last frost. I’m in 7a now and last frost is mid April. I’m going to put them in containers and see how things work out. Thanks for all details in the video.

I love pansies. I purchased the Frizzle Sizzle variety as well, but mostly for the colors not for cutting purposes.

THANK YOU! I am looking to grow so many more next year. I am adoring them! My batch worked out great. I germinated in a black bag.

Would these tips also work for violas, too? I've had a heck of a time trying to get them to grow from seed, but finally got some going this spring.

Hello, I love this video. I have a question??? The seeds that you bought from Johnny’s are they a certain kind of pansy that can grow taller pansy’s
or can any pansy seed be made to grow taller by your technique ????

Do you have to do a cold stratification, or do they germinate well just from planting and keeping dark?

Is there a handy source for what flowers require light vs dark and heat vs no heat for germination?

Are those your lizianthus behind you? Mine are doing very little to nothing and look almost the same as they were when I planted them a long time ago. :( Would love to see a garden tour. I feel like all my plants are so far behind. (I’m also in Denver)
