Cathay Pacific Premium Economy Review B777-300ER DUS-HKG Trip Report

A journey from Düsseldorf to Hong Kong.

It all starts in Germany, I had to fly back to Hong Kong. I thought to myself, what better to fly than to fly my national airline’s 359 back home. Though flying CX would not be the most economical way, it would be the fastest way and I would be able to fly on their brand new A350! This led me to purchase a ticket from Düsseldorf to Hong Kong and shortly later, I chose my seat as well, a window seat to enjoy the wing view of the beautiful A350!

Two days before my flight departs, I saw that my scheduled flight will be operated by a 77W, instead of a 359 as planned. I got so disappointed that my excitement to fly has got past negative. I was also arranged on a different seat, I remember it was near the rear of the economy section.

*I have a feeling that CX somehow also felt my disappointment*

However, when I arrived at the airport and got my boarding pass, I don’t know how exactly I acted, but I felt extremely happy and excited at the same time! Being a valued One World member, the system gave me an upgrade from economy class to premium economy class! The moment when my spirit went from -100% to 200% instantly was crazy.

Thus, ladies and gentlemen, here is my experience on Cathay Pacific’s premium economy product from Düsseldorf to Hong Kong, operated by Cathay Pacific’s B777-300ER, powered by massive GE90s!

The thing I hate the most is the fact that only the front row seats have the legrest that comes out when the seat reclines while the other seats just have a foot rest stick thing.

Great video once again. I used Cathay Pacific for my trip to HK then onwards to Japan. Same for return trip back to London. The best airline so far. If ever I want to go back to Japan, I will use Cathay Pacific but would like to check out Korean Airline or FinnAir though.

It was a surprise to me when my seat was upgraded to premium. I always like to sit on isle side. When I asked the staff if the seat was on isle side, the staff told me that it didn't matter although it was close to window. So I thought it was an individual seat at the end of premium class.
However, I was very disappointed when I got onto the flight. I think if they will upgrade my seat next time, I will ask them to let me chose my seat; otherwise, I will refuse the offer.
Then, the footplate was out of order. That means I couldn't use it through the whole night and yes, I was very uncomfortable because I could not place my feet properly.
Still the same, staff never ask customer if they want to have cup of tea or coffee after the meals. It is always like that no matter where I fly from where to where.
The premium class is not as good as I think.

I'm flying Cathay premium economy from Tokyo to Hong Kong then to Johannesburg and I wasn't sure if it was worth the price, but I feel better now seeing this. still wish I could've afforded business class 😭
