Fassbender is fantastic in this because he feels both natural and disingenuous. He is fully acting the character, but the character is clearly lying for the sake of defending/justifying himself. He doesn't actually care about how "...distressing" some directives are, he only acknowledges so to save face. Same with the section where he talks about what makes him sad. He so clearly is just expressing a corporatized and funneled rendition of the emotion of sadness, nothing else.
