VirtualDub Setup and Installation

We've used VirtualDub on several occasions, but we've always focused on how to use it, without looking too closely at how to install and set it up! Today, I walk you through my entire setup process of the software, including how to get it to read from and write to more file formats, and how to install plugins!

I have been informed by @jionsmile1 that the FFMPEG input plugin is no longer available for download. From what I can see, the plugin has been deleted or delisted from SourceForge.

As of right now I really wouldn't recommend using VirtualDub anymore as it's been unmaintained for quite a while now. Consider using software like Davinci Resolve instead, which is free, far more feature-packed, and overall more intuitive to learn.

If you must use VirtualDub, consider using VirtualDub2 instead, a modern fork of VirtualDub that's still being actively maintained. It apparently also has some modern features like opening MP4 files and other formats, so you wouldn't need the FFMPEG Input Plugin above. However, I haven't used this and cannot comment on whether it's functional or a good replacement for VirtualDub.

Spent a while trying to find simple instructions on how to load an mp4 file into virtual dub until I found this great video. Also has deshaker which happens to be why I'm looking at vdub again after all these years.

Thank you as the walk-through was easy to follow and understand and I was up and running in short time. I gave a thumbs-up and a subscribe. I an building a lobster hatchery here in the Philippines and working on a series of Youtube training videos on various aspects of lobster production. I am using several different camera and shooting both on dry lands and in the waters of the grow-out nets. Image stability is a problem especial since Youtube recently removed their image stability and filters features.
