Are these easy to retrofit on the set after the set has been fully completed? Or is it easiest to do during the build

How difficult is this to install for a novice? I've heard mixed things. Some are saying it is easy, but some are mentioning that it is almost impossible without prior knowledge of electronics and requires soldering and circuit boards.
