Read what you like, never mind the book snobs

You are a breath of fresh air Tyrone- I'm sick of the snobbery when it comes to reading. I regularly pick up Middle Grade and YA books when it interests me or when I'm feeling slumpy- as a 30 something woman and I LOVE them. As long as you enjoy what you're reading then who cares what it is! Loved the Holly Jackson series- so good!

My favorite book of all time is a YA book called the Crow and the Castle. I read it in 1959 when it came out. It is about 2 15 yo teenagers who start a detective agency. It is their last summer before they can get their driving license. I got a copy with help from my dad and I have read it every summer since. I have the perspective of being a preteen and jealous of the guys in this story I wanted to get a driving license. I read as a 30 yo guy who hated having to drive so far to work, paying insurance and maintenance and now my next reading will be as a 75 yo man who reads it and wonders how these boys turned out, who they married and what they're doing now. It sounds corny I know. This book got me into reading. I'm so glad I found this book with the help of the local librarian she changed my life.

I am almost 50 and still occasionally read YA books. And I don't hesitate to tell people that. There are some truly amazing YA books and series out there.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was so good! I listened to the audiobook while walking my dog or running and I was so hooked, I extended our walks so I could finish the book faster and go right into book 2!

Tyrone, you need to read Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson. Private boarding school, unsolved murder mystery and a little bit of romance. You’ll love it.

I'm also in my 50's and occasionally read YA. I loved the Cassandra Claire Mortal Instruments series! It's one of my favorites. I never read the Clockwork series, but now I'll have to give it a shot! I hope you enjoy reading them!❤

I love Cassandra Clare and started off with Mortal Instruments years ago because they were the first out. Now reading the prequel Internal Devices and I like even more. Shortly to start the last in series. Cassandra Clare is how I got into fantasy books and not looked back.

Yes!!!! 37 years old and I’ve read some great YA this year! Dawn of onyx isn’t marked as YA but I thought it was, great story. Divine rivals! So many to mention… not everything has to be spicy to be enjoyable. Keep doing what you’re doing! X

I'm 26 and I read YA. YA is a nice palette cleanser after finishing an intense fantasy, Thriller or Horror. Nothing wrong with it at all. I hate snobby book readers who think they are better because they read a certain genre and stick to that genre. It's nice to dip your toes into different genres. I never thought I would like Romantasy. I read One Dark Window and Two Twisted Crowns last year and that has ended up being one of my favourite duologies of all time.

I nearly 60 and still read ya occasionally. (Joe Flanagan comes to mind. Excellent.) Sometimes I read childhood favorites like "Harriet the Spy, " Beverly Cleary books, "The Great Brain Series, " etc. Because they make me happy. I love an intense sf or crime show but want "Seinfeld" or "I Love Lucy" sometimes too. I can be edified intellectually plenty in my reading but also enjoy a simpler romp. Blessings 🌻🍄

I loved Arc of the Scythe, I still think about it and it has been a few years since I read it. It's a triology if you didn't know, Gleanings is a short story collection. It does mention some things that happens in the other books though, and include the villain's backstory.

I often read YA and sometimes Middle Grade too. There is some really good stuff out there. Scythe series is excellent! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Many of the books you mentioned are on my TBR. This year I've already read 2 YA books and enjoyed them both a lot. In fact I gave The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh 5 stars. Book snobs are so silly and I don't understand them beyond their need to ffeel they're better than other people.

I have a confession too! I read YA books too! I'm 42 and love them - Harry Potter and Eragon are two of my favourites but I also love Morgan Rhodes' Falling Kingdom series. I've also recently recently discovered A. F. Steadman's Skandar series (it's basically Harry Potter with bloodthirsty unicorns) and love it! Just a couple of recommedations for your TBR! Also, with regard to Cassandra Clare... I loved the Mortal Instruments, for me it was better than the Infernal Devices

While I am currently reading Anna Karenina, I would have no problem reading a YA book. Sometimes they pack quite a punch. I will often integrate a YA with a tougher to get through novel. Even though it's not YA, I am reading Dungeon Crawler Carl because of your recommendation. I am loving it!!!!
Years ago a friend told me that it didnt matter what you read, as long as you did read. Read what you want!!!! I Loved The Raven Boys. Loved The Hunger Games Trilogy.I read a couple of The Mortal Instruments and liked those too!

I’m in my 40s and I read mostly YA, with middle grade thrown in as well. I also read adult fantasy, but they tend to be super heavy and heavy on the ‘romance’ or dark themes. YA tends to just be a decent story. I wish there’d been books like them when I was growing up.

The Prison Healer is great, and I’m actually so glad you’re going to try them! I hope you like them. The Hunger Games are fab, too.

I also have the Good Girl’s series and the Scythe series on my TBR, but I’m missing The Toll. I need to find it before I start them. Legendborn is also on my neverending TBR.

OMG The Infernal Devices is my favourite YA trilogy of pretty much all time. I am in the minority of Team Will all the way.
