I've tried both. I originally quit Misfits Market because they sent me an order when I didn't expect one, like Imperfect Foods did to you. But MM said they weren't going to do that anymore. So I just retried them. I agree, I don't like the insulation. I have tried to use it for various purposes, but there's a lot of it. I doubt if it's real wool. I think it's probably recycled clothes. Just a guess. I looked and looked on their website to see if it was something I could put in the compost bin, but couldn't find the info. I like having veggies show up on the porch, though. I like that MM's fruits and veggies are all organic (I believe.) Sometimes their greens have been so old they were inedible. So I've had mixed results from both, and where I live, neither company will take back their packaging.

So I use imperfect foods, but I’ve started to use it sparingly because I read a few articles about how imperfect foods is pulling support away from CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture which is another form of subscription box but bought directly from farmers, if you haven’t heard of them before) one of the articles I read talked about how CSAs are in a way better at stopping food waste because it ensures the farmer can sell all their produce because a number of people have already agreed to buy it. Also one of the articles talked about how companies like Imperfect sometimes buy overproduced products that farmers would often otherwise sell to places like canning companies if imperfect hadn’t bought them, so the food they say will be wasted wouldn’t actually be). Anyways I couldn’t find that article but I’m going to continue looking. But the point of this post is that I just wanted to say I would love to see a video comparing Imperfect to CSAs from your own perspective, and thank you so much for this comparison video!

Imperfect you can skip weeks up to 1month
I don’t mind the auto fill cause sometimes there are surprise items like chocolate hummus? I wouldn’t normally find. I put a reminder on my phone to double check the cart before ship day. You can skip right before the checkout day

I started with misfits a couple of years ago and they had such huge issues with things getting crushed and tossed around and they went through lots of different kinds of insulation and packing. One time we got our misfits package and the ice packs were completely melted and everything was warm. I think they have all gone through some growing pains. Both companies intentions were good. I then went to imperfect Foods and I can't remember why I went back to misfits. As far as things being wrapped in plastic, I don't think they control that since they're taking excess and reject stuff. But I will say that both services have evolved over the last few years. I stopped getting them in the spring when local produce starts coming in so I will probably start one of the services again and see how it goes. It used to be that you couldn't pick anything out from misfits so it's come a long way in that regard. I had a hard time using some of the things I got and some of the things we got we did not like and we're constantly trying to pawn it off on other people which meant we were really spending more per item on things we actually used.

Do you have any local CSAs? Might be tough to find in Vegas.. but supporting local is always great! And they always provide seasonal produce. Both Misfits and imperfect source produce from all over the states (or even internationally) making them have a high carbon footprint! Great options if there isn’t a local farm to buy from though!

Thanks for the video! I actually just recently tried misfits, I find the prices to be on par with my local grocery store, or on some items MM is even higher (which was surprising as where I live in CA I’d expect grocery stores to be higher). I also found the packaging to be a bit excessive, I know it is to protect my produce, but WOW! It did however say on my package all items are recycled materials, recyclable, or compostable which is a good start. Long story short I ended up canceling after my first week as I find it more sustainable to buy at my local farmers market or in bulk elsewhere. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think it can be a good option for some though, especially those who are in food deserts!

I would like people to start asking these companies where the food used to go before this business was created? Rumour has it this food would have been given to food basket places for the poor but now they take it and make a profit from it.

I actually get Imperfect, however, I use to work for a produce distributor....they bought regular produce just like grocery stores. There was nothing special about the produce we sent them (it was a particular produce that was, yes, local to our area but shipped throughout the country). Not the most sustainable but convenient.

Another great video - I used to use imperfect foods but I found it was really easy to fall into this habit of not customizing the box, letting them send me a box of random things, and not really getting around to using everything. I also found that their stuff actually wasn't cheaper than say my local safeway which was hard because I was on a hard budget at the time. I think I might check out my local farmer's market (I just moved to a new state), and if those don't pan out maybe I'll revisit these. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the helpful comparison. I’ve been using imperfect foods for 4 months now and was thinking of doing misfits as well since I don’t always have everything I need available with imperfect foods. Also you’re supposed to choose the skip this week option on your account for imperfect foods if you don’t want to order that week. I get frustrated when I forget to do that too.

If the insulation is wool - gardeners would love to use it as a mulch layer!

Well I was going to try them but I think I'll pass after this video. I'm working on switching to sustainable methods.... think I'll just keep shopping locally and wait for the farmers markets to open back up in the spring.

In Belgium we have a service that does bring it to your door, at the time frame you choose, the truck is refrigerated so no need for insulation. They take back the boxes and most of the bottles. It's local and organic, not sure if it's "ugly" products they seem unperfect but okay. they offer also a service of meal like hello f**sh but a con: they are a bit more expensive than grocery store

i tried imperfect also and i really liked it. Unfortunately we weren't able to keep using them since we've moved to HI but 10/10 still recommend to my friends and fam on the mainland

Take a look at the insulation. I can't remember quite well(as it has been a while since I've ordered from MM) but I think it was recyclable(?) Please correct me if wrong!

Thank you for the reviews. This is helpful as I try to decide whether or not I even want to try one of these services. One thing you might want to clarify is WHO delivered the boxes....FedEX, UPS, etc because neither Misfits nor Imperfect is responsible for the actual deliveries. Second, the time the package was delivered could have been a typo, like you said, or it could have been when the delivery company notified the shipper that it was delivered. The change in delivery time also is NOT a Misfits or Imperfect issue....it's the delivery service...sure would like to know WHO delievred the packages.

I wish we had this more accessible in the UK - some supermarkets sell wonky/"imperfect food" but its not clear enough

Hey! Thank you for the informative video.... I'm still deciding on which one would work for me, since I'm going away for school 😔. I want a budget friendly service that delivers quality produce
