Thank you - I need to Jack a light carport so I can replace a rotting fascia board under it. I think it’s all being held up by paint lol. I need a husband cause some jobs like this scare me, lol. I will need to be careful to overdo the safety precautions. Your videos always help me so much!

I always enjoy your videos. I just want to help out a little here. The supporting columns should rest on the core of the concrete footings (the Kern area or central third) and not the outside corner. (I know this is probably just a graphical oversight.) Also, the "footing" of the new column should not be wood in contact with the ground. And now I think I will go buy a stronger jack...

What application do you use for your designs?

Quick question: I have a deck that wraps around the second floor of a two-story home. It is learning a bit, likely due to settlement over time (it's an old house). My initial idea was to jack it up and put a pressure treated lumber "shim" underneath the post that is lower than the rest and just screwing in the shim into the bottom of the post. Your video seems to suggest the entire post should be replaced. Can you provide some insight on why a shim would be a bad idea?

Our issue is that the deck (about 4 1/2 feet tall) has sagged a bit at the portion of deck that is nearest to the house....thinking that I will have to remove several floor boards to climb in and then access the frame. If I remove the face boards (skirt) then I will have to crawl a good distance to reach the area where it is sagging.

Does that new beam need to be tacked in or is gravity enough?

Thank you for this, regarding putting up a bottle jack what if the garage beam is hovering over Virgin soil which is held up by three wood posts in cracking concrete under the earth? How would I jack up the roof and replace the three beams in the cracked cement footings if there is only Virgin soil to place my bottle jack on?

I have a new home, two years old...the front yard settled...some of the yard sunk in and the deck is sloping. Can you look at a picture to help me please? And where do I send it if so? Thank you so much.

to be clear, shouldn't all attached structures, such as a deck (concrete patio), slope AWAY (breaking a bubble) from the house?

Thank you for confirming my plan to fix a badly sinking corner deck post.
My question is “does the current footer need to be removed “? I believe it does and the new footer must be placed on virgin soil.

My second floor deck has posts that are too high and the deck has duracek style vinyl that pours water back to the house. This freezes (Canada, Eh?) and causes an ice build up. My plan is to strip the pretty covering off my posts and jack up the side and trim the support post. Won't be doing this until the spring. Fingers crossed.

I built my 12x12 deck before winter, and after winter my deck has moved away from the pool making my corner post crooked tried to build my railings and cant seem to move the deck to get the deck back level (I am talking about the post the deck stayed level but my post are not level ) I tried pushing the deck and I cant seem to keep that post straight up, any advice would be helpful

That’s easy. How about a deck that rises the further it is from the house? Deck is built on concrete cylinder footings that go down into the ground. Apparently frost has gotten under them and pushed them up. My plan is to jack it up, then shorten the posts one at a time. Any other ideas on how to handle this?

Can I use the large concrete bricks instead of a piece of wood? I think I can lift it but I want to wait and see if I have to replace the whole deck. It probably slopes down a few inches in one corner.

I do believe the problem would be is the base concrete in sinking causing the deck to become out of level. How would you address the sinking concrete base problem?...

What do you do if the posts are rising up making part of the deck go up?
