In this video I will show how we can build our lithium battery pack for an old ups. It double up the backup time. I used my Homemade Spot welding machine to weld all the batteries together.

Material Used-

1. 18650 Li-ion cell 2200mah (21nos.)
2. 3cell BMS Circuit
3. Nickel Strip and Spot Welder
4. Insulation Sheet
5. Silicon Wire 12AWG
6. Glue

Thanks for watching this video.

The way you close the battery cells looks very aesthetic

Please do not let the UPS charge the Li-Ion 3S Battery. The 3S has a nominal voltage of 11.1V and a maximum of 12.6V (4.2V per cell row) - The UPS will attempt to charge the battery on the Pb voltage standard which is 14.4V. This will take the cells way over 4.2V and the BMS will probably burn its resistors as it will attempt to stop the current from passing, entering the "overvoltage" mode.

If you don't do that, at least pin this comm so that people won't do it either.

Thank you. Nice pack, btw. :D

Bro, very nice video. But I read in the comment section that you have modified the charging in the ups to charge the lithium battery pack properly. It would have been really awesome if you had explained it along with the battery pack making or made a new video cause it may be misleading for many of not pointed out that lead charging system is different from Lithium ion technology.

Просто замечательно, что выводы сделаны в одну полоску, которая будет сильнее всех греться и может перегореть. Надо усилить ее, или допаять провода с разных участков

wow baut achi packing ki bas agar heat sensor bhi uske ander lag jaata aur bahar se temp display se measure bhi kar paate toh aur acha hota par ek aur chiz maine yah nahi soch tha ki last me use ups ke ander hi fir se integrate kar diya jaayega mujhe lagta external 3s charging se charge karna jyada acha hoga

It looks simple to do it, let me try how simple it is for me, I will do this weekend! Nice video

It will work for a very short time because the rated voltage of the UPS is between 12 and 14.5v. This battery can't even put out 13v.

Nice upgrade from lead battery to liion battery pack

Instead of using normal batteries you could have used 5 amp li ion batteries which are also available yes they are 18650 and only 6 cells would have been needed to create 12v 10 amps battery pack and the ups is not made to charge li ion batteries let me tell you use a simple charger pcb and connect the 12v input of ups to the pcb circuit it will help to keep them safe along with the bms

It worked fine, but please check that the charging system of the UPS device may not be suitable for the lion battery. You have switched from a dry type battery to a different type of battery.

That's not a wise idea to change the battery chemistry of an UPS without adjusting the controlling circuits. A 12V lead acid battery is meant to get fully charged at 14.2V (discrete) or 13.8V(Continuous). That's way too much for the 3C Lithium Ion Battery pack. You need max 12.6V. The BMS will protect the cells from overcharging to some extent, but you will surely never rip out the full lifespan of those cells. The low voltage cutoff of the UPS will trigger sooner than it should for the Lithium Ion battery pack and you will never be able to fully utilize the full charge of the pack (it can go as low as 11.1V but your UPS will likely cutoff at 11.7-12.3V leaving just 0.6-0.3V headroom for the batteries to operate (12.6V fully charged - 12.3V cutoff). And if there are charge indicators on the UPS, they will never turn green to indicate fully charged if the battery is replaced without circuit adjustment. So, such a battery replacement is not practical without carefully adjusting the charge/discharge circuits.

You are a professional so you did it easily but please tell that how dangerous it can be if even a small mistake is made.

Lithium ion batteries need a CC CV charger to fill their juice. Others may lead to an explosion. The way of handling 18650 lithium ion batteries is needed to be safe.

Lithium ion cells cant be charged like lead ones, max voltage is 12.6 for 3s and ur putting around 15v, it will burn the bms
