What is Space Law?

Many are saying that we are entering a second space age. With the increased participation of the private industry in outer space, there are more space objects being launched into the cosmos than ever before in human history.

With all this activity, who is making the rules, if anyone? That is were space law, and more to say, space lawyers, come in to play.

Space law is mainly comprised of four international treaties that a number of states (which, in international law, means countries) have signed on to. These treaties are drafted by the United Nations, which has an arm (the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs) whose sole job is to promulgate rules on space law.
