Cunard DRESS CODE on the QM2 Cruise Ship - Sunday Sofatime - Will I Need a Tuxedo on the Queen Mary?

The Queen Mary 2 from Cunard cruise lines has a reputation of being very elegant and luxurious. Before our cruise from Southampton to Hamburg, I was worried about the dress code. I don't own a tuxedo and a few of my suits don't fit me anymore :-P. Let's take a dive into the dress code onboard and I will tell you about our experience.

I think it is always fun to dress up on a ship. We paid enough for this trip. And why not!

I caught Marcus in his suit! I kept rewinding it and pausing it so I could see him, he looked so nice and he is also very handsome!

Getting dressed for dinner is ok for me on a cruise. It offers the opportunity to freshen up and try a different style for evening indoors vs daytime relaxing by the pool. A couple basic pairs of black pants with interchangeable dressy tops would suffice for a week- long trip.

i’m going on a Cunard cruise in November-this will be my first time. I’m look forward to dressing up in the evenings as I never get the chance in my day to day life-

Tbh, there are more than enough Las Vegas meets Disneyland style cruises for people to walk around in flip-flops. I myself believe dressing up is a show of respect. I believe that there are still people that also think that one should look representable even for a plane flight, as it used to be (not a tuxedo, but at least a shirt, shoes, pants and a blazer or a smart vest), and would thoroughly enjoy to have at least one cruise ship (ocean liner actually) where some standards are being held and enforced by the crew, where even most casual should be smart casual.

I have missed dressing up for dinner and formal nights on Royal cruises. Thanks for your in sights.

I like dressing up for dinner but I also like that it’s optional on other cruises and you dont have to if you don’t want to

Morgan, another great Sunday video, thank you. In regard to the dress code on Cunard, it appears that they accommodate all tastes. I can live with that. I do have three different size tuxedos that accommodate my physical expansion over the years and the cumberbunds fit so tight that if one snapped loose it would be a lethal weapon. LOL

Getting ready for a 7 day cruise on the QM2. This was very helpful. Thanks.

I did an 8 day cruise on the QM2 in 2018 (from Quebec City to New York City). I found the ship to be very comfortable and I enjoyed the beautiful, classic, deco-style murals and bas-relief wall decorations. I too had been concerned about the possibility of having to wear formal wear on certain days, but even back then; the dress code was similar to what you reviewed in this video. We did not go to any "gala" events, but we did "honor" the slightly upgraded dress code for those evenings. We (2 men) wore dress pants, collared shirt, tie and a blazer on the 2 "formal" nights. After dinner we removed our ties and enjoyed the lounges and bars and we did not feel underdressed or frowned upon. We enjoyed the classic feel of the ship and especially were glad to find quiet areas on the ship where you could listen to music or a singer, but it was not a huge, noisy, overdone production. I would definitely consider doing an ocean crossing on the QM2.

Morgan! You are such a sweetheart! You’ve definitely eased my mind about the dress code. My pant suit thing (with the daring décolletage) and a lovely necklace to highlight it would be quite suitable. So yay if I ever decide to cruise Cunard. 💕

Funny, the reason I want to go on the QE2 is to get dressed up and see everyone dressed up

All my dress clothes shrunk in my closet also. I even had to go up a shoe size? Didn't know that would happen.

Markus looked soooo handsome in his suit & tie (in your ship tour video). Every once in a while it is nice to get dressed up - even if it’s just for photos!!

Solo cruiser. Hate dressing up fancy. No commercial.
Thanks Morgan!
