One simple block makes so many great layouts.

poutama - Māori
1. (noun) stepped pattern of tukutuku panels and woven mats - symbolising genealogies and also the various levels of learning and intellectual achievement. Some say they represent the steps which Tāne-o-te-wānanga ascended to the topmost realm in his quest for superior knowledge and religion.

Fabric Cutting:
From the 10" squares, cut 4-2 1/2" strips.
From 2 of those strips, cut them in half (5" strips)

From the FOLDED white jelly roll strip, cut 2 @ 4 1/2" X 2 1/2"
cut 2 @ 2 1/2" X 2 1/2"

A "quarter square log cabin" block.
The sewn squares can be rotated for different patterns, after sewn as she instructed

. Enjoy exploring the patterns seen, when several blocks are stitched together.

That could be made easier if you used two strip sets. One dark, white, dark another med, whte med. Place the strip sets, right sides together and cut squares. Then, sew on the diaginal to make half square triangles.
