1) No VIP transport would stay there, the convoy would immediately rush through or turn around in a split second
2) No shooter would stay in the open waiting to get shot but stay behind cover
3) The attackers even killed some of their own
4) The protection detail shot some of their own as well
6) The G wagon driver was probably drunk from the start
7) I left out point nr. 5 and you didn't notice
8) Now you just checked the previous point
9) Maybe the conovy would have a helicopter accompanying them to scout the roads ahead

BTW Presidents are overvalued these days because it is still flesh and bones and even when someone manages to kill him it ain't like the whole society and economical system would break down because of that. You stil have a "replacement" to jump in for any cases and even without a president everyone knows what to do when such an elected person isn't around :) Such an effort would be done only to make a point and not to actually change anything... except the rare case the president is a hidden psycho who just wants to release a few nukes on the world for fun and it was nescessary to take him out to protect the world.
