Lehigh Valley Roadrailers. NS 8104 leads 255 through Decatur, IL

Every now and then the Triple Crown Roadrailers on NS will get some moderately interesting power instead of the usual C6M or Evo. Such was the case on February 6th of this year as NS 8104 did the honors. On this rather gloomy afternoon, myself a few friends waited across from the bridge where the NS Lafayette District terminates into Decatur yard over Lake Decatur. Completed in 1907, this is the 2nd bridge built by the Wabash over the lake, replacing a steel structure. The remnants of the Illinois Terminal bridge can be seen in the background.

19k showed up first with a nice red CP SD70ACU trailing. Not long after, 255 came across. We high-tailed it to the other side of the yard in Decatur at Wabic. At Wabic, CN 3233, one of their honoring veterans units was parked conveniently just north of the Diamond where I could get both special locomotives in one shot.

It wasn't so convenient for CN however. The two locomotives and two cars were what remained of the head end of what was supposed to be the daily A432 manifest to Memphis, TN. A run-through switch and subsequent derailment in the yard behind them quickly put a halt to those plans.

Even though it was a bit dark and dreary on the bridge with the LV unit it maintained that Eastern look. By the time they came up on WABIC that slate amount of sunshine made for a great gray steamy industrial background plus the CN in the background in the one shot. Trying to get caught up on a few videos I must have missed somehow high humidity and hot coming up this weekend
