I feed 2-3 times a week and my fish are old, barely ever turn on the light, they get natural sunlight

My fish used to get sick alot. I feed them every other day now and they are alot happier and healthier! As for algea, i bought zebra nerite snails, and they are doing an amazing job!

I just got some young’
ember tetras that are Monday skinny. So Iv been feeding them tiny amounts 2-3 times a day and checking the ammonia every other day.
Plus Iv got a bamboo shrimp, hill stream loache and 2 mystery snails that are eating any extra.

It's actually good to have algue in aquariums very beneficial to the water and some animals love it eat it so along as its not to mad then its fine its natural in the ecosystem in the wild and so fine in a tank

I usually skip lights and feeding on the weekend. When I go on vacation, I give a little extra the 2 weeks before leaving and then skip feeding them the week I'm gone. If you do have a friend feed them, best to set up a portion for each day and hide the rest. They will always overfeed.

My biggest breakthrough was discovering zeolite, not as a physical nitrate/waste remover like charcoal. No as a biological medium for it's optimized physical structure allowing anaerobic bacteria which complete the nitrate cycle turning it into gas which leaves the tank and the sheer load of bacteria they can hold. As far as I know there is no better material for biological for USABLE surface area. The only one I've found on the market that has a grade of zeolite optimized for this is seachem denitrate. They have all the data listed on their site. They have other zeolite products but the denitrate one allows for a lot of anaerobic bacteria. Don't throw out like charcoal keep it long term, and seed it from the start with a biological with anaerobic. I have an overstocked 14 gallon and a maybe 500-1000ml of denitrate zeolite in the back for 6 years now and it's absolutely amazing how stable the tiny tank is. I only do water changes every few months too.

BUT! If you want an algae carpet, do the opposite 😂

On the opposite side, I’m trying to grow algae really badly for all my algae eaters but I can’t for the life of me :( Got a huge planted community tank and it refuses to grow algae. I keep strong lights on 13 hours a day and use normal plant fertiliser, never deep cleaning just 20% weekly water changes and the occasional filter clean. I can tell my poor babies who were in an algae filled tank beforehand want something fresh, but I only have dried algae wafers and frozen bottom feeder vegetables cubes to offer them :( Occasionally I steal handfuls of my friend’s hair algae when she is cleaning her tank and they go nuts for it.

Okay, so I own a betta who as of now, lives on his own in a 20-gallon. I actually don't have a tank light, but rather i use the natural light, as the tank sits parallel to a curtain covered window.

What if algae suffocate any plant i put inside? Idk why they are so many, nitrates are almost 0, could it be the light?

@Dustinsfishtanks what do you meen by starving out the algea? I still dont get it. Algea can eat the food in the water just like plants, why is it that plants dont starve?

Always fast ur fish once a week. They can then forage in the tank and use stored nutrients in their digestive tract

I want more algae. Everytime i top my tank off and the fish can reach algae that was out of thier reach they go nuts and eat it all.
