I've lived in Michigan all my life. I'm a registered native American Indian of The Sault Ste Marie tribe of Chippewa. This is a very beautiful state. The 4 seasons are a big plus. The winters here are nothing like they were in the past due to the change in the jet stream. I'm in southeast Michigan, of my 6 sons, 1 lives in Marquette, another son lives in Traverse city. There's no other state I'd rather live in. Last year I traveled over 3000 miles by car, this truly is a beautiful state.

Outdoors activities. Hunting, fishing, canoeing, hiking, foraging, skiing, off roading, sand dunes, sandy beaches. We have beautiful lakes, rivers, and forests to explore.

Michigan is a beautiful state with a great deal to do if you like the outdoors but the people of Michigan need to be smarter about who they are voting for.

Thank you for this informative video. What is Michigan like for single, older adults?

My wife and I lived in South Haven MI for 14 years. We never had much snow in the winter. Most times it just blew over us as a coastal town.

The road quality could be easily fixed if we stopped allowing heavy loads. I believe only Michigan, Florida and Alaska allow such heavy loads.

For me it’s the lack of sun during winter that is the problem. I clearly remember as a child, winter having way more sunny days during winter. There is no place on earth I would rather spend my summers than in Michigan . Ps almost zero natural disasters in fine state as well.🤷‍♂️

Moving to the metro Detroit area for residency (medical). Coming from CO. I hated CO. The fact that we have a home secured with a two car garage, a yard and in a relatively safe area for less than the 2 bed studio we had in Denver tells me things will be alright. Sure, it’s not “optimal” for some folks. But I’m older, with a family and looking to commute from home to school and have my family set while my finances grow. I think it’s a great area as long as you stay away from trouble and I do like the affordability compared to other states. I’ll be living in the suburbs and commuting to work away from the “hood”.

My wife just got offered a great nursing contract in a small town in northern Michigan. she's originally from there. I get to take my job with and work remote.
We are coming from North Dakota... so we aren't worried about winters. I'll take Michigan snow over North Dakota Blizzards (-35 F with 70 mph winds). in ND they don't cancel school for the kids unless the windchill is worse than -50F. cold is normal.

I am very much considering moving to Michigan, question I have is, are there many horse properties there that are also close to longer Nature trails with a view hills and not just flat land? Because I so far I like everything about Michigan except that it doesn't have big mountains and I wonder if it even has at least a view hills?

The roads in Detroit are terrible and I've had to actually fix my car multiple times a Year depending on your metro

That’s one thing I never understood was how is it that right across the river you can drive all over Canada and the roads are absolutely beautiful, literally a 20 minute drive, five minute drive to Canada and you could drive for hours in Canada and the roads are just about perfect. We have the same type of weather, I grew up in Algonac, so I’ve been all over Canada . And for the people, don’t make this political, there has been Democrats and Republicans running Michigan, we have always had rotten roads. It doesn’t matter who’s in charge.

I like your videos they're very informative I live in the upper peninsula and that's the one thing I noticed is that you don't talk about it all that often unless you're talking about a camp or something like that. I know it's hard to remember us up here sometimes cuz we're not as fast paced as down there but throw it in once in a while let people know we're here.

The truth is it does matter where you live in Michigan. as to how much snow you get... you may get ice in one area you get it snow in other areas. you may just get cold it does it just depends, but the one thing you have to know as that is ran democratically. the economy is destroyed. there are no jobs here. What there is the wages are low. I remember growing up where you saw the old plant and saw the olds plant in the skyline and it's gone the jobs are not here in Michigan. Growing here I can tell you the state government has made this a controlled state.... not worth living in.

People coming from warmer climes may have no awareness of how tremendously snow tires improve traction on snowy roads. If you move here, get snow tires for your car. Its a bit annoying to have to swap them with all-season tires for the warmer months, but once you buy them, you've got two sets of tires for your car and its a long time before you have to buy any new ones.

Michigan is one of the places i am considering. I am shocked at how high the property taxes are. And then to read that roads in many places are not well maintained. What is the state doing with all that tax money?

The quality of roads really depends on the wealth of an area. Business areas and wealthy areas are constantly getting redone but poor areas really are like driving over tank traps. Think flint, deep detroit, old parts of Pontiac but that's south east Michigan for you.
