There’s nothing like storing a legendary racecar (or three) that still bear their racing battle scars from the past. And today we’re looking at a handful of Datsun 510 racecars from Randy Jaffe’s prolific collection – backed by a list of builders and drivers that reads like a damn encyclopedia of 70s racing legends.

I respect people who save important historical things.

Hands down the most terrifying experience I’ve had in a car was riding passenger in a mildly prepped 510 through the hills of NorCal in the middle of the night.

Once you drop the suspension, it's a very nice looking, elegant design. Get inside and enjoy amazing visibility, that is just not available in today's cars.

In Australia we didn't really race our Datsun 1600s on the track, they had their success 'downunder' as rally cars and 50+ years on they still win Classic Rallies against cars 30 years younger. I myself ran 3 1600s (510s) over 20 years of ownership all with fully 'blue-printed motors running twin 45 webers, great cars and lots of good memories. The other main thing was that the 2-door wasn't sold in Australia, we all had 4 door sedans, sure a few, less than 100 were privately imported as SSS 2-door 1600s.

I have never been a fan of the look of JDM cars, but I love the 510's. Just a badass looking little car.

You NEED to visit Adam Carolla’s garage he has many BRE Datsun racing cars including roadsters, 510’s, 610’s and Z cars, and he has a significant collection of Paul Newman’s 300ZX race cars, and some other cool stuff. It’s incredible

I bought a 73 Datsun truck back in the early 90s and built it up it with Crane cam, Hedman headers, Weber carbs, and heads done by a local shop. Although it was not near 185 horse maybe 140 or so. Well i had got it done and scheduled a exhaust to be put on it. That morning it was to be done i drove it into town with open headers to the GOD was it loud! People walking down the street was giving me the stink eye lol.
When he fired that 510 up it instantly took me back to that truck and that morning LOL. Drove that truck for a few years and still miss it.

I was a Datsun fan and had two 510's, a 610 and a 710. My '71 510 was built with parts from BRE and Datsun Competition and was a closet sleeper. Loverly cars and I would love to have another one.

My shop teacher was big into the SCCA back the 80s. He parked his Datsun 510 race car in the shop. One of the reasons I grew up to be a car guy.
