Vietnamese Steamed Rice Rolls

Let’s make one of Vietnam’s most popular breakfast dishes!

Every time I’m back home in Vietnam, I always opt to grab this super-accessible breakfast from a local food cart. It’s so quick and easy to recreate at home, not to mention delicious!!

Sauce: you can buy the sweet chili sauce bottled. Otherwise:

1 to 2 tbsp sugar
1/4 cup fish sauce
1/4 cup water
Juice of 1 lime
1 to 2 tbsp vinegar, I use plain unseasoned rice wine or plain white vinegar
Chili peppers to taste
Crushed peanuts if you'd like
3 to 4 cloves of sliced garlic if you'd like


The above are approximate and can be adjusted to taste. I personally don't like very sweet sauces, so if it's just me, I'll reduce the sugar down to 1 teaspoon. My sauce is also 1/2 peppers, but you can use just 1 or less if you don't like spice. Sometimes I leave out the vinegar.

This is a VERY simple version. The stuffed version (banh cuon) vs this version (banh uot) is so much better - especially if loaded with everything.

No disrespect at all, but this made me so grateful to be an American 😂😂😂 I will keep my chicken and waffles, thank you very much 💗🇺🇸🇻🇳🌏🍳 So glad ur sharing this though, because I've literally never seen any of these foods before!!! I kinda thought international trade had made the modern world less diverse, but this proves me wrong and makes me happy.
