As a Maori I can honestly say that most,
if not all these, weren't even traditional
Maori designs!. Most were of the other
polynesian tribes, Samoan, Tongan etc. I
also recognised Sth American tribal art
in others..so to answer another's post
about meanings?!..I think these are just
'off the wall' designs someone thought
looked authentic. Traditionally, Maori
tattoos were done on Matae (meeting
house) where elders of the tribe sat &
recanted ancestral genealogy, to the
'tattoed', calling on ancient deities to
protect & guide the 'tattoed' thru the
journey of pain being endured?!. Yes,
you can get off-the-wall Maori tattoo
but if you want authentic, then NZ is
where you need to go...& ask for my
