That’s actually a great point! Extra bonus points if you ask the person that installs your system to teach you how to do it, saves a whole bunch of headaches and creates community on the most literal sense ever.

I think this is just some reminiscence of the old days when it wasn't so easy to install an OS, so his thought is (and was a good realistic one in the past) "i'll let someone else do a job he can do better than me". Yes, it is outdated nowadays, but it is not neglect or stupidity. Anyway, Stallman has always been on the idealogical side of things (not too much on the practical one) and that's part of the reason why today we have GNU/Linux

My friend is getting a laptop and has asked me to install Linux on it as soon as the colleges open. Gonna install Mint on it because I am afraid he might find it difficult to fix arch-based distros' idiosyncrasies.
