I feel like Jon is making the videos he would have wanted to see when he was getting started. Love to see the effort to empower other artists.

For anyone wanting to learn chords, I really recommend Kenny Werner's Effortless Mastery method. The essence is you write 4 chords every day (doesn't really matter which) and learn to play them in sequence and learn how they relate to each other so you develop muscle memory over time. Dude also has a lot of wisdom about how to play music and how to live life well.

"Remove yourself from the finished product" I really needed to hear and solidify that idea in my head. It can be easy to think what the end goal is even though messing around without caring about the finished product usually gives the best results. I just need to apply that in a way where I can more easily get out of my own way. This video is a nugget of gold and I appreciate the understanding!

Jon is easily the realest dude on here, straight to the point.

That highhat sounds soooo good. People are putting too many sounds in their songs instead of making the sounds they got even better. Good advicr.

I’m not even halfway through the video, but I can tell you are a great amazing person and love the way you explain things.

I will never stop making beats with audio. Even with all these vsts and midi capabilities etc. audio/samples is where I’m at my best

As someone who strictly only uses a midi keyboard and FL studio, I found this to be so informative. Until more recently, I had no idea a large group of people were still making beats with hardware like this. I think I am going to try and dip a toe into hardware production at some point.

As a very bad instrumentalist, I have a very similar process on Ableton. So fun to watch you create those intricate beats. You're soothing dude

This is so sick. Love that you've simmered your process down to the real tactile, fun stuff. Makes me want to go dawless sometimes (I could never lol)
