Creating a Drupal 7 Activity Feed with the Heartbeat Module #3: Improving the Message Look and Feel

In the third video tutorial of this series on the Drupal Heartbeat module, I show you how we can improve the look and feel of Heartbeat messages simply by installing and utilizing the Display Suite module. In doing so, we are able to customize our messages into a fluid, two column layout. This is so easy that the tutorial itself is only a few minutes long and covers installing Display Suite, customizing our Heartbeat message display settings and updating our custom created view from tutorial #2.

Hey Jefte, thanks for the feedback! Great to hear the tutorials are helpful - definitely plan to keep them coming. June's been a busy month but hopefully will be in a better routine releasing them for July.

That's great to hear, thanks for the comment! Definitely have no plans to stop producing tutorials, just haven't had as much time recently.

How would you integrate the Statuses module so those statuses show up in a heartbeat activity feed? Either that or put a heartbeat status posting form in a block?

At ~2:28, you use the language, "checked off", which I see is actually checked "on". I think its semantics, and wanted to ask for clarity since 'checked off" is repeated.

What if I want to let the user hide/delete the message for him, when the message is not created for the specific user, like an update from the site?

Looking to make a facebook style notification block inside an intranet that I am building.
Things it needs to do:
1. Highlighted flag icon with number of new comments shown.
2. Menu pull down from (just like facebook).
3. Mark as read functionality
4. list comments, comment authors etc of where the logged in users has added a comment.
5. Show only comments newer than logged in user's comment.
Watched you videos.  Can Hearbeat and Rules do this?  If so How would I go about doing it.
There is not much on the web (that I can find) regarding this use case for Drupal 7.
