It's about checked ego. MJ had an ungodly ego, maybe even more than LeBron. He kept it in check though. That's not an act of deceit, it's an act of discipline. The work he displayed always surpassed the ego he displayed. LeBron's ego display often contends closely, at times even surpassed it.

I feel like he wanted that power because in his early Cavs days the management time and time again let him down. Which led him to join Miami. He was being cocky for that not 1, not 2 interview. Also I admit he did get a bit mad with power and it cost him a few times.
