DJI Phantom 4 - Battery reset and what's inside the case

What is inside of the DJI Phanton 4 battery and what I have learned about resetting a battery. The down side is you have to access the battery mother board either through making a hole in the case or opening the case itself.

Once you have access to the board you will need to touch the ground and reset contact (RST), hold it for aleast a few seconds the release. The leds should flash and the battery will turn on. This has only worked for me so far on a battery that would not show any lights when the button was pushed. I did check and the battery had power but the board was unresponsive. Still trying to solve the led 1 flashing issue.

Hope this can help some of you all out there.

I had a P4P battery which I had stored while inserted in my P4P for about 6 months. It had the same symptoms as you described. Using your method of resetting the battery, I had 100% success. I've looked at many other videos with different procedures but yours is the simplest of all. Thanks so much. You literally saved me the cost of a new battery which, as you must know, is very expensive. GREAT JOB!

Great great video, and spot on with the close-up shots too, thank you so so much. I appreciate people, such as yourself, who help to make sure that the likes of DJI (who expect us to buy a new battery after already supporting them by purchasing an expensive drone from them), and you have made the process so good and straight forward. Thank you again. Sadly I made the mistake also of letting the batteries go flat (no lights at all), and this has given me re-assurance. Oh forgot to add, love the idea of drilling 3 holes in the case (while the battery is out), so that on the next occasion, the + - and reset are available, without having to remove the case again, which, as you can imagine, was harder than rebuliding a v12 engine (well not quite). Take care fella. Andy from Merseyside UK

Thank you for your help. My Phantom 4 battery pack had no screws to open the pack, and rather than fight the glue and pry the case apart, I used a small diameter very thin dremel cut-off wheel to cut a 1 3/8" x 1/2" piece out of the back of the plastic case at the appropriate location (on the side where the push button is on front). I was able to easily access the main pack terminals and the reset button. All of which I needed and used as per your instructions.
Piece of cake! Careful if you use this technique - do not let the cutoff wheel go any deeper than the plastic! Very carefully use an exacto knife in the corners of the cutout, and anywhere else as necessary to prevent damage to the circuit board. I left it open, but a piece of white duct tape might be called for to cover the access hole.

This looks like a good video. I have 3 batteries that I have not used in years and they probably have less than 5 cycles on them. I sure hope I can do this hack. I took the plastic off my battery that has no screws and it was a beast. What a pain. You would think DJI could have engineered these better.

Got the P4P out to get ready for a trip. Found TWO batteries completely dead. The third seemed fine. Watched this video and the reset worked for one, the other lit up as soon as I applied power from an old automotive battery charger for a few seconds. Trying to see if they charge up now. Much thanks!

thank you for the instructional video. i just used dremel and cut out a small square over the top of all of those so that I had a working window. i used 2 paper clips to short out the reset. i just counted 3rd node down from the top. its on the charger now. not sure if this method will work for me. but I wanted to share that making a window on the bottom of the battery gave me great access without destroying the case

Thank you! for the fantastic tutorial! I need to make holes at the back of my battery to try the reset! do you know the measurements at where the holes have to be made? thanks!

I had a very similar issue but my PCB had an unlabeled green breakout board covering the reset pad. I found that the pad is still there but has a solder blob on it. After confirming that the solder blob had 3.3v logic on it(bat- to solder blob) i shorted it and it reset the battery and now it works again

I looked back at my Autel star battery. They have the same reset on the board too. I tried to reset it by making the 2 contact areas. The battery lights came on as to reset. This on a battery that has not been open until now. The others I have have been rebuilt and failed . Hopefully it worked. Will give a update when I try the drone on the app

Would you be willing to do a continuity test to see if that reset test point is connected to any of the pins on the external connector? If so, we should be able to reset the batteries without opening them up.

Had a Phantom 4 battery that was not taking charge but would do the 13 blink routine when clicked on. Tore it apart to follow this guide but it still won’t reset. Am I doing something wrong? I left the positive and negative battery terminals on a 12V 1000mA trickle charger over night and tried to reset it again and it still won’t light up like yours did in this video.

Hi, I had the same problem, can you give us some sort of a pattern to where exactly we can drill in at the bottom to revel the negative, positive and the reset button, so we can do away with the guesswork? I know this may be too much to ask but this would really help. Thank you.
