Thanks for the upload, i tried this with 6 seedlings whilst away for 3 weeks, all survived, stunted growth but all healthy, for, larger plants use 2 or 3 thin ropes into 1 pot, fill the bucket with water 3/4 way up and use a clothes peg to clip the twine to the bucket to secure, then put at least 3 inches submerged in water, run it to the plant pot and bury 2 inches in the soil, it work's great.

Use a plastic wrap to cover the water jar so that mosquito doesn't lay eggs on it and water doesn't evaporate quickly into the dry air.

All of these commenters saying to put the water source above the soil line apparently never been to the Lowes planting section where they have wicking trays full of water with plants placed on TOP of the trays.

The top of the water holder needs to be above the dirt level, not below it.

We should place bowl higher than pots in first exp

The first example is a mess!! Water WILL GO UP into the pots but only if the rope is in a tube otherwise it will just drip water at the ropes lowest point on the table and on your electrical outlet :))

Water is best placed above the soil line.

Hi, is there any specific type of string that will work?

Would this work for plants like Bromeliad or Orchid or the Easter or Christmas cactus (The Easter and Christmas cactus is not succulent) and would it work for succulent plants as well?

A cup of water equals a week? Bruh this dude doesn’t know shit. I use wicks to water my plants when I’m away I have about 100 plants on my terrace, out of those 50 are connected to the wicks. I have a huge 100 gallon water container and that goes for about 1.5 - 2 weeks in the heat of summer. Also if the water container is higher than the plants you will get a quicker feed.

For a week? I never water any of my plants that often

I guess this will never work unless the water is put higher than the pots

The rope size would drown that plant….yarn would be better size.

Interesting how you "flew over" (for plants that need watered this way). Does NOT work for all plants.
Get rid of the word HACK

Self watering - What is the point if it only last about a week? Most house plant can live without water for 1.5 week without water. Most of the time when i go away for about a week i just water them before i leave. I need a technique that can last over 1 month😅
