More than 90% of medical students at Washington University complete a research project while at the School of Medicine, even though participation in research is entirely optional.

Research interest is so high thanks to the strength of Washington University’s medical research enterprise, as well as the support of the Office of Medical Student Research. The office matches students with faculty mentors and secures funding so most students receive a stipend for their research.

The Office of Medical Student Research is directed by Koong-Nah Chung, PhD, Associate Dean for Medical Student Research, with assistance from Program Coordinator Roz Robinson.
