Getting chased by dogs on your first ride is wild.

These are the golden moments of every biker's life. The fear and the excitement that Butterflies in your stomach feeling are one of the best.

Respect to you because I havent even started riding yet and all i see is POVs of people on 600s and 1000s joyriding. This is a nice change of pace especially for someone new to the bike scene

Those wet roads would have terrified me on my first ride.

Beautiful bike. Do large figures 8's, circles, weaves and emergency stops in a parking lot. Condition em in. Have fun!!

Look up what "Countersteering" is and how to do it. It's how you change direction on a motorcycle. Very easy to understand and get the hang of. Ride safe!

Hey there bro, welcome to the riding community! Your video honestly brought joy to my heart as all the questions running in your head reminded me of my first time riding. I also had an R3 for my first bike, and am blessed to finally get an R1!

I noticed that you were doing a few things that I was doing the first time as well, here are a few observations I noticed on your video: (I am also new to riding so if anyone can chime in and correct me if I make a mistake, please do!)

01:53 - The reason you stalled on the intersection is the clutch was released to early. This happened due to a slight incline on the road after the dip. Practice releasing the clutch gradually, however on slight inclines add a tiny bit of throttle.
02:10 - During your cruise on the straight I noticed your hands are stiff when turning the bike side by side, this is an indication that you are not used to counter-steering.
02:15 - A lot is going thru your mind, don't worry with experience you will get be better
02:19 - Your bike under-steered in the intersection because instead of counter-steering in before the turn you faced the handle bars in the turn with no counter-steer making the bike WANT to go right first, then left into the turn. This resulted in a wide entry.
02:30 - Over-rev of bike on shift. Throttle control needs a bit of work, at the moment its not too bad cos its a 300cc however once you move up engine displacement (ie. a liter bike) a small mistake like this can send you flying in to a wheelie.
02:40 - Your question on how to turn, please watch the link on counter-steering above and here are some links about understanding over-steer and under-steer.
02:52 - The turn here was not too bad for a first time. I know there's a lot going thru your mind, but here are some observations so you can improve on the turn. Don't forget your indicators. The turn was attempted a bit too early and the exit was a bit too wide. Keep practicing and you'll improve quick!
03:43 - You are right! it is overwhelming, fear not with practice it will be second nature!
03:57 - The turn attempted here was a lot better, however you still didn't use counter steer. (I'm willing to bet that you felt stiff entering this corner, this is due to the bike fighting you on the direction it naturally wants to go, counter-steering will make the turn feel "smoother").
04:01 - Great acknowledgement, this shows that even though you are overwhelmed, you still have the situational awareness that you are doing something dangerous.
04:13 - Another example of clutch control. Practice finding the friction point of your bike.
04:40 - Although you stalled on this turn, you did a great job indicating!!!
04:57 - False Neutral. Don't worry this happens a lot at first, you'll find that being more Deliberate on your left foot when changing gears should fix it.
05:10 - You mentioned that it was a struggle to start on a stop, this can be easily improved by practicing in an empty parking lot. However, if you can find a hill which is not busy it will make you a lot better.
05:20 - Even though the turn seemed correct here, be careful as you simply took the turn earlier hiding the under-steer, this is important because in a busy road, you won't have the luxury of taking the turn early. Again, counter-steering will fix this. Also bonus point, you DID use the turn-signal :)
05:29 - The reason you stalled is, as you were rolling to a stop, not enough pressure was given to the clutch lever. You need to fully engage that clutch lever on a stop if you are on any gear.
05:39 - You stalled again because at 05:36 you over throttled while still holding the clutch which made the bike not jerk. You then over-corrected by releasing too much clutch and under-throttling, resulting in a stall.
05:59 - ***VERY DANGEROUS***. Your intention was to turn left, preparation was good with indicators active. However because of the events in 05:39 your mind was over whelmed, making you realize mid-turn that the bike was under-steering BAD. this made you decide to go straight instead. Again this is safe in empty roads however this is very dangerous in crowded intersections.
06:06 - Another false neutral, when this happens don't panic, simply shift up a gear again like normal.
06:17 - Another stall on moving from a stop. All good just practice.
06:32 - You left your indicators running the whole time :) I do this a lot too haha
06:37 - Great awareness! Yes we are invisible to vehicles and I almost crashed twice because of this!
06:45 - Jerky gear shifting, this will all be improved in time
06:52 - Final turn, again this is a hidden understeer as you compensated the understeer by attempting the turn early.

There are tons of material on youtube please see below topics of what needs improving on this video:
-Friction Point (Shifting Gears and Starting from a stop position)
-Counter-steering - Please watch videos on this as it can save your life in high speeds, once you become more confident in riding.

Also what helped me was, for the first 100km (around 60 miles) I did slow maneuvers in an empty car park (ie. figure 8's, turning practice going smaller and smaller, and hill-starts-ALOT). I'm not sure if you have them in US but here in Australia we have some pretty good riding schools, if you can afford it I highly suggest joining them for better tips.

All in all, NOT bad for a first ride. You are tackling the roads with respect, wearing the right gear and you are aware that you need improving. It is overwhelming as there's so much happening at the same time. Welcome to this looong journey, accept that everyone will drop their bike the first time, and always be safe.

Happy and safe Riding from Australia!!!!

Hell yeah brother, take it slow, itll come over time, parking lot is great place to learn the ropes. Start with learning the clutch/friction zone!!
