This gels perfectly with the news Bond 25 will be a 'coming out of retirement' story. It also fits thematically with the Old vs New motif of Craig's run. I don't get all the drama; we're getting a new (probably one off) character and she happens to be black. What's the drama?

Due to Bond's retirement (I mean him living in Jamaica), giving the 007 number to another character seems reasonable. But really those clickbait headlines really got me thinking about the codename theory at first.

Having somebody else using the 007 number is definitely an interesting idea, though I'm assuming that Bond will get it back by the end of the movie.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is clearly trolling all the die hard reactionary Bond fans that are against a female or Black Bond, by combining the two, and assigning her as 007. It's a brilliant move that doesn't mess with the original character, but does create the kind of knee jerk reaction as seen in these comments. I love it.

Well, with all this news. I’ll always have Roger Moore’s Bond films where almost all of them had strong female characters without them saying that they were women. Oh, how the times have changed.

Guys Chill! It’s not a “Black Female James Bond” it’s just another agent, after bond retired at the end of the last one they had to fill the 007 role in the fictional world of James Bond. Craig is in this one! He is James Bond! It’s ok! Calm down!
