Story of Sadako Sasaki and Thousand Paper Cranes #shorts #worldpeace #hiroshimaday #nuclearwar
Показать описание
Although the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima almost a decade earlier, its poisonous radiation still fills the air when Sadako Sasaki fell sick. Sadako knew many who enter the hospital with leukemia never return home, but she didn't give up hope.
Sadako’s friend Chizuko cheered her up by folding a crane out of gold paper. Chizuko reminded her of an old legend: If a sick person folds 1,000 paper cranes, the gods will make her well. Sadako felt inspired. Once Chizuko taught her to make the cranes, Sadako worked on creating a flock. Her brother helped her hang each bird from the ceiling of her hospital room.
As months pass, Sadako’s energy waxed and waned. She met a boy younger than herself in the hospital and later learnt he has died of leukemia. But she never gave up hope for her own healing and continued folding cranes till the very end, eventually becoming Hiroshima's symbol for peace.
