Eva Peron | The History and Life of Evita

Andrew Lloyd Weber wrote one of his most famous musicals about her in the 1970s. In 1996 Madonna won a Golden Globe Award for starring as her in a film. She is venerated alongside the virgin Mary in many Catholic homes.

But she was also bombarded with tomatoes during her only visit to Switzerland, King George VI refused to meet her and even after her death her body was stolen not once, but twice by those who vehemently hated her.

All of this is a testament to the extraordinary impact and legacy of Eva Peron, who, from humble beginnings eventually became the first lady of Argentina and undoubtedly one of the most polarising women of the 20th century.

i didn't know much about Eva Peron until the very popular song Don't cry for me Argentina. It send chill to my bones. She is an icon worthy of heroism in Argentinian history. She should be revered.

One story about 'Evita' I remember was of her being furious after a public appearance: "They called me a whore!" she fumed. "Never mind, " said an old man near by, "I haven't been on a ship for years, but they still call me 'admiral'."

I have been fascinated by Eva Peron since when. When I was young and remember “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina.”

“Polarizing “ is probably one accurate descriptive for Eva. I think she would be gratified to know we’re still fascinated by her after all these years. She was beloved because she truly cared for the forgotten poor but she is a person who believed her own myth. She grew fanatical about her status as a savior/saint as her Descomisados referred to her. But she also diverted funds for her own enrichment. My take is she truly wanted to help the poor but she lacked the experience to make long term changes. Not to mention Argentina at the time was an extremely male dominated society and Evita also had to overcome that obstacle. This amazing woman achieved her status with little more than a grade school education. Awesome bio 👏👏.

What a sad ending to a woman's journey. Did the UK or USA ever have a woman of position with such values? A very unique lady and one that Argentina should be proud of.

Ever since I saw the movie I was obsessed with Eva/Evita. I did all of my projects on her in Spanish class, both in HS and college. I have felt drawn to both her and Princess Diana. My Dad died in 1996 when I was 10 and from then on I had a morbid curiosity. I wanted to know everything about them both. Considering the movie came out in 1996 and Diana died in 1997. I really enjoyed this!

Isabel Perón no perdió las elecciones, fue derrocada por un militar que causó la desaparición de miles de argentinos y finalizó su vida preso.

I'm still reading and knowing about her, but it seems to me that this Woman helped the poor and the Rich people in Argentina hated it.
