This video explains exactly how to flip reset in Rocket League from beginner to advanced. I cover the step by step process of how to perform one if you've never done it before, the different types of flip resets, how to practice them for any skill level, and how to use them competitively in real game scenarios.

The flip reset is one of the most insane mechanics you can implement reasonably in competitive matches. Considering it wasn't used in RLCS until 3 years after Rocket League's release, you can tell how difficult it is to learn. However, as hard as it is to defend, it's even harder to perform. This is why we only want to do it in the situations where it's actually necessary, since it can result in a pretty dangerous counter attack if you don't at least put it on target. Hopefully by the end of this video you'll be on your way to learning how to flip reset consistently from plenty of scenarios.

I’m gunna give you guys a HUGE tip that I NEVER see anyone mention about flip resets.

First, a flip reset is only possible because the ball is recognized by the game as a surface, and if all four wheels are touching a surface you get your flip “reset.” Since this is true, it is also true that holding “R2”, “L2”, and neither (while at the point of contact) makes a significant difference. I find using neither most consistent. Holding R2 will slightly push you in front of the ball which you (normally) don’t want. L2 is extremely useful. If you break with L2 at the moment of contact, you almost get “glued” to the ball. This is good for getting resets with high momentum, or to start a double, or triple. I feel like nobody knows about this. Even if you are a high level player, test it out. You will notice the difference.

Takeaway:

When you make contact on a reset:

-Make sure you are not holding “Drive.”
-Advanced players: Experiment with holding “brake.”

I stumbled upon this when analyzing one of JSTN’s triple flip resets. A clip where he had his controller layout on-screen and noticed he held L2 on the first reset.

Hope this helps!

I haven’t played rocket league in months and still watch these

It’s nice that now you can say “you can use the ball control feature” without having to add “if you’re on pc and have bakkesmod.” I do have a pc and of course I use bakkesmod but I put in about 400 hours on xbox before I even got a pc and bakkesmod made my practicing overwhelmingly more efficient.

"the first step to learn how to flip reset is learning how to air dribble" *me who can barely do some ground dribbles watching this anyways*

I shamelessly can say I'm 33, wife and kids, and love this damn game lol. So fun and addicting. Have improved INCREDIBLY by recently watching your videos and practicing your training. Much appreciated! Just wanted to say so, not sure how many older guys reach out lol. Keep it up and thanks man!

I've neglected my training the last 6 months, so thanks for some motivation to get back at it.

This is honestly the one of the most anticapated wayton videos ever, so glad all these plats can shut up and see that they cant do this kind of stuff

here's aa tip that no one ever mentions, once you get the reset tilt up immediately after so it pushes the ball higher making the second touch easier to do

yoooo i made it into a vid, that’s my clip at 9:17. it was the first flip reset i ever made in a game. i gotta say, although you make some good points, learning to flip reset and do other advanced mechanics when i was in diamond, before i “should” be learning it, actually helped me improve a lot at ball control in general and i don’t regret that time spent at all. now i can hit quad resets sometimes and i’m gc1 in 2s. when you decide to learn certain mechanics is 100% preference imo.

It’s crazy that the game has evolved so much in the last year to the point where I’m c2 and I feel like I need to learn flip resets already for that exact scenario you spoke about near the end of the video. I feel like I can’t score with a regular air dribble or double touch if there are 2 defenders back, I’m just hitting backboard touches for my doubles and they often defend them, or I hit shots they save because there is 2 sometimes 3 on the goal line.

That moment when you don't need a tutorial like this but you watch it anyways because it's a Wayton video.

This may sound crazy, but one reason I practice learning these types of mechanics, even though I'm D3, is because it helps me greatly with overall car control, understanding where to touch the ball to get what reaction, and helps me think in more out of the box ways, at least for my rank. I don't devote insane amounts of time to this stuff, but I do cycle through ceiling shots, air dribbles, and flip reset attempts, and since I've been doing that, I'm WAY more confident in my aerial/ball/car control.

My biggest issue is my shots/shit placement/shit power for sure, and I do practice that, but I also feel like I'm getting closer and closer each time I see a noticeable uptick in my wall/aerial play.

Compared to others, I feel Wayton's tutorials and training packs much more easier to follow and practise. Thanks for all the vids man ! ❤
P.S - I've been practising wall to air dribble using Wayton's training pack and its been very helpful.

Insane tips and breakdown was already almost there but didn’t get the flip often. The delay with jumping off the wall fixed that immediately

One year later, but just wanted to say that this training pack is better than any other pack out there for practicing air dribbles, let alone flip resets 🙏🙏 Thank you Wayton 😩
