Maintenance, alimony is reverse dowry.
Dowry is wrong and legally punishable.Dowry is usually taken one time and wife can consider it as Stri dhan and can easily demand it back in case of Divorce. But maintenance & alimony is taken for life and considered as a legal right of wife. Courts have awarded life long alimony even though wife has stayed in marriage for one month before applying for divorce.
