Power Functions and their graphs

What's a power function and what do their graphs look like.
Technically speaking power functions can have negative exponents, and so some rational functions are also power functions and we graph them by considering the asymptotes and what not. For our purposes here, however, the power functions I will give in this unit will have non-negative exponents and can be graphed more simply.

Thank you for the video. I have a question, in f(x)=x^(1/3), how can x get negative numbers? in the root always needs to be a positive number or zero.

Hi, when you choose any value for x, how you know it has to be 1, 2 -1 or -8 for x values inorder to get y values : for example: y=(X)^1/3 you choose x values as 1, 8, -1, -8, -2 etc..
