The renegade row is an exercise that holds the top position of a front plank (with your hands only, no forearms), and improves upon upper back and scapular musculature by adding in a row. This is a difficult variation because the tendency is to move or sway at the hips - the purpose is to also recruit the obliques to prevent this swaying while rowing!
