1:00 the look on his face is him never wanting her to stand alone like he had to centuries ago before creating the fold. The fear of being hunted down. He wouldn’t wish that for any of their own. He knows that if they stand together, they have a better chance than standing alone. However he went about things the wrong way. If he had done it differently, in a good way, they could have stood together like they both wanted to. But he knew it wasn’t going to happen like he imagined when he says the words, “Fine. Make me your villain.”

If you're a book reader, hear out what I'm saying. I love them together so much I can't help but think if she loved him back and stayed he would have changed. That scene in the books when he tells her "You might make me a better man" and she replies "You might make me a monster"

And then the ending of siege and storm, that one scene between them *no spoiler giving*

One of the things I love about Alexander's or shall we say Darkling's character is that the author has built up an incredibly complex figure. Especially in his words "make me your villain" he seems like he genuinely wanted him and Alina to be strong together. He is truly a morally grey character who has turned to the evil side. Many people say that their relationship is toxic and that he is manipulative but I believe that he has done it because he thought it was the only way out. All he wanted was to protect his people his brothers and sisters that have been the whole idea of his obsession which yet again shows a perfect example of how power and desire for revenge and protection can blind people and make them go mad. But when Alina comes he changes and she brings back his humanity maybe if she didn't run away if he didn't (out of fear of losing her) connect their powers maybe then things would have turned in a different direction. I didn't want to read the Shadow and bone series because I was annoyed by "good girl falls for bad guy perfect yin and yang chemistry but oh wait he turns out to be truly bad and she gets with her friend" and all that but maybe...just maybe for his complex character and the whole world-building I would read the series. I can't wait to read about his past.

I love how i said to my sister that even though I'm a Huge fan of Ben Barnes, I wouldn't fall for his bad guy character in this series, soon as I heard him say those words in this scene, I turned into Geralt from the Witcher and immediately said "F**k...." xD

Can I be honest: I believe that the darling truly wanted to be good. He wanted to be good for her, for Alina. And I understand why Alina chose Mal over the Darkling. However, I hate how Alina always, and I mean ALWAYS chose the ungifted humans over the Grisha.

If it was someone else my opinion might be different but Ben Barnes as the Darkling I’d be more inclined to be with him even if it was just for power. He’s evil but I’d love him unconditionally 😊
