Definitely agree with the 2nd part. Neymar was 10 times the player Vini Jr is and even at his peak he only finished in the Top 3 on two occasions. Bale never finished in the Top 5 with his best ever finished being 6th in 2016. Robben finished 4th in 2014 and after that his best finish was 8th. Salah has never finished higher than 5th and even after that outrageous 17/18 season he only finished 6th in the Ballon d'Or rankings

Vini Jr wasn't Madrid's best player in La Liga last season, he was horrendous for Brazil in the Copa America and although he had a decent run in the UCL knockouts it wasn't anything spectacular. He easily would've been one of the worst to ever win it (in my lifetime anyway)

Vini has been the best big game player from the last 2-3 years, always stepped up when madrid needs him, like scoring a hattrick against barca, cooking kimmich in semi finals of CL or scoring in 2CL finals. Also he has been phenomenal against city and Liverpool whenever he has played them

For the younger folks, canavaro is 5ft9 cb, in a far more physical time, won the world cup, won his league and cup, in a league with the ac milan team that is arguably the greatest team ever assembled. Ppl just like attacking players more than defenders so they undermine the quality. Vvd should have won the that year because he was so head and shoulder above every other competitor in his position, canavaro was ina sense the common factor in a lot of success that year

Fifa have done some garbage things in the past but I missed when they did their own World Player of the Year competition before it got merged with the Ballon D'or. They had, for instance, Zidane winning in 2000 and 2003, Ronaldinho winning in 2004 and Figo winning in 2001 instead of Figo winning in 2000, Owen in 2001, Nedved in 2003 and Shevchenko in 2004

Being a better footballer does not equate to being a better defender or forward. Cannavaro value to that Italy team was immense. But that year Henry or Pirlo should have won the ballon dor if anything.
