How to Move like Muhammad Ali (boxing footwork)

I go over the footwork technique and concept behind the legendary champion boxer Muhammad Ali's footwork. Ali's great boxing footwork was slick, fast, effective, efficient, and kept him moving throughout an entire fight. It's not common to see fighting footwork like as most boxer's footwork techniques are different.

I show you how to use your legs by exploring a new way of controlling your hips, knees, and feet different from the way you would with the more common bending/cushioning type of boxing footwork found in fighters nowadays.

footwork is the most underrated skill in boxing today, if you have good footwork you can go a long way in the sport. tyson fury beat vladimere klitscko with footwork and movement, a good mover beats a flat footed fighter 9 times out of 10. it's a shame footwork doesn't get taught in most gyms anymore

Dude this is freaking amazing. Makes so much sense why his footwork looked different and effective.

super interesting how a background in ballet led to his innovation in boxing footwork

What's amazing about Ali and why nobody copies him is because this guy can see the the next movement or where his opponent is going to move. His opponent sometimes freezes and even loses balance at close range because Ali suddenly travels somewhere they're not expecting. That man is a genius! He moves as if he can see the future

Even Ali's slips were energy efficient. Check out Ali vs Terrell and that famous jab jab cross Ali slipped. Notice how he just uses just minimal but enough movement to dodge that combination. He literally just used his head. Most boxers use most of their whole upper body to slip which takes a lot more energy and is slower as a side effect.

I'm not a very fast Heavyweight but this explained it so well and I've been able to use this kind of movement in sparring to great success. Thanks a ton!

Bruce Lee's was inspired by Muhammad Ali's fighting foot work.

Jeet kun do= Use what work's, disregard what doesn't from different fighting styles. The Godfather of MMA= Bruce Lee

It takes a lot of skill to be able to pull off this type of footwork, it is very easy to get caught off balance

I discovered this on my own through shadowboxing after watching your video on the boxer's bounce when you said to stay low to the ground as opposed to jumping up. I realized how tiring the other way was and that just using my glutes, hamstrings, calves, and ankles as ONE UNIT was so much more efficient that I could now bounce an entire round without getting tired as opposed to just for a few seconds at a time the other way.

You have the most informative videos on boxing footwork out there. Thanks

I was just watching Ali vs. Frazier 1 and thought to myself how Frazier moves in like a tank and Ali flits like a ballerina. Pretty awesome to see you back that up. I lose my shit watching Ali's footwork, and how he sometimes just showed it off to get the crowd going.
