Since I posted this, a law enforcement IT specialist informed me that the “tamper switch” does not, in fact, create an audit event, but does interrupt the recording. It might be intended as a function to avoid corrupting the files stored on the flash media (so you can’t remove the media while it’s recording).

I was also told that from the locked menu button, a user can format the media, and other than missing recordings, there would be no indication/audit that the format event even happened. ☹️

Capt: "Now let me get this straight Officer Murphy, he got out of the hand cuffs, out of the back seat, stole the memory card, drove your car away without the keys and left it at your house AND claimed to be an attorney?"

Murphy: "Just put me in jail."

Huh, they were more thoughtful than I expected with the design of this. To be honest, I didn't expect for there to be a tamper switch underneath the cover that would indicate if someone opened up the data vault.

If you're able to send it on to one of the many electronics YouTuber's for a full tear-down that would be very interesting to see also!

*Lock opens itself*

"And that's all I have for you today..."

2:00 The tamper button might also stop recording to the card. On some cameras, when you open the card door, it stops writing to the card to prevent data corruption. It may well be both!

Our PD uses Flashback 3s. Everything that you suspected this thing does, it does. It's connected to the in car Mic, body mics, camera system, and Radar(not all cars have radar).

A trigger event will start recording to the SD card(Flashback 3 uses SD cards). After the event is over, the officer then stops the recording and marks the recording with a type (non-event, summons, arrest, etc).

Once the vehicle returns to HQ it DOES connect to the WiFi and uploads the files to the database.

As for that tamper bar. I can't exactly say it is it isn't a tamper bar, I've never heard of it as referred to as such. I do know though, that when the door is opened, the system will not record any videos as it risks damaging the recording. When the door is open it's in a maintenance mode. The menu buttons work and allow for configuration of the device, replacement of SD card, and a few other things.

Great video though. It's always nice to see equipment I deal with daily get the LPL treatment.

When the YouTube ad is longer than the actual video.

You know that the lock is bad when it takes him less time to pick it than his actual speech before he picks it

Man he is moving up to more and more illegal locks. He is training us for the finale: how to pick the locks at area 51 so we can finally raid it.

Not as easy as the magnet to the shotgun rack..so you got to give them that.

I used to work for L3 Mobile Vision and was an installation engineer for these and the rest of the equipment that went onsite in a department. Neat little DVRs.
