Hands-On With AirPods Max Shield Case From WaterField Designs!

One of the biggest flaws with Apple’s latest over ear headphones, the AirPods Max, is its smart case. This case is not the best. Both visually but also in terms of protection for your headphones. There are a lot of exposed areas that leave your headphones susceptible to scratches or other damage. Not ideal for a product that costs over $500.

San Francisco based company WaterField Designs has come out with one of the more intriguing solutions, an actual carrying case that zips up.

Just received my order yesterday. Came here to make sure I understood how to use the case to put the headphones into low power mode. Really pleased with the purchase (and with the video). Looks a hell of a lot better than the original case from Apple.

I LOVE WaterField Designs. I own their iPad sling bad and it is incredibly well made. I got the one in the leather and waxed canvas (similar to this case) and I highly recommend them.

Mine arrives this week, still waiting on my AirPods Max to be delivered. However this case will be here first and waiting for my new headphones. Can’t wait. Also, I agree this color was the best option in my opinion

I’d like a case for mine. But i dont know about this design. Looks luxe high quality and all, . But it doesn’t do it for me. I dont know what it is about this case. And dont get me started on the Apple OEM

First, I love Waterfield. My primary bag is the Bolt backpack and I have a bunch of other smaller bags, all canvas + chocolate leather. I also have the AP Max. No brainer? No. I hear so much nonsense about the smart case, but this is a freaking bowling bag! It simply looks, terrible. In comparison to their other offerings it falls short to say the least. First thing I realized when I saw the case (after bowling bag) is I see why Apple didn’t do a full case. It makes the headphones HUGE! I have like 3 perfectly organized bags inside of my backpack. This would take up more room than all of them and leave dead space in the bag. The taper at the top is their attempt to minimize the space it takes up but it makes it look like a rushed product. Not sure if it comes with a shoulder strap but it would have to since it’s going to be it’s own separate bag! I applaud the attempt to move quickly to bring the people what they want but I think it shows why Apple cares less about what people want, and more about what they need.

If these ship to Canada, I might get these at some point in the future. But since travelling isn’t really a thing now and the only place I go to is the office (and if I need headphones for that I can use my regular AirPods), I’ll be keeping my AirPods Max at home to be used in my home office. I can’t wait for my Space Grey AirPods Max to finally arrive sometime in February according to my latest shipping update. It’s nice to see 3rd parties are coming out with their own cases and they do look nicer than ’s smart case but for now I’ll stick with the case that comes with the AirPods Max until I need something else.

The case is fine. I would not mind having these. But I have Bose QC35. They are excellent.

An amazing case that, frankly,  should have provided for the cost, or something like it. That said, the only issue is timing. You really only need this when traveling and,
