Join my family as we fly the TBM 850 from San Antonio, TX (5C1) to Panama City Beach, FL (KECP). Yes, traveling with kids is hectic, but I am grateful to have an awesome copilot wife that always keeps the "cabin" under control...

As a Cirrus pilot/owner, it's a game changer having the pressurization and capabilities of a turbine aircraft such as the TBM. I share this video to inspire all aviators looking to step up their flying!

Thank you for watching, and feel free to reach out for any suggestions, comments or questions!

The History of Socata TBM (now Daher TBM)

The SOCATA TBM (now Daher TBM) is a family of high-performance single-engine turboprop manufactured by Daher. It was originally collaboratively developed between the American Mooney Airplane Company and French light aircraft manufacturer SOCATA. In fact, "TB" stands for Tarbes, France where Socata was located, and "M" stands for, you guessed it - Mooney!

The design of the TBM family originates from the Mooney 301, a comparatively low-powered and smaller prototype Mooney developed in the early 1980s. Following Mooney's acquisition by French owners, Mooney and SOCATA started a joint venture for the purpose of developing and manufacturing a new, enlarged turboprop design, which was designated as the TBM 700. Upon its entry onto the market in 1990, it was the first high-performance single-engine passenger/cargo aircraft to enter production.

Shortly after launch, the TBM 700 was a market success, which led to the production of multiple variants and improved models, often incorporating more powerful engines and new avionics. The TBM 850 is the production name assigned to the TBM 700N, an improved version of the aircraft powered by a single Pratt & Whitney PT6A-66D. In March 2014, an aerodynamically refined version of the TBM 700N, marketed as the TBM 900, then the 910 with standard G1000 NXi. The 930 arrived by 2016 with the G3000 flight deck, which was replaced by the 940 with autothrottles and autoland in 2019. As a crescendo in 2022, the magnificant TBM 960 has arrived, with the Fadec-controlled PT6E-66XT P&W engine (5,000 TBO). Daher TBM has become a powerhouse in business and personal aviation, around the globe with these impressively performing aircraft.

If anyone has any questions on the TBM, aircraft ownership, or purchasing your first plane (to include a high performance pistons like a Cirrus), I'd love to hear from you, as my full time job is brokering aircraft at Mason Amelia. Feel free to reach out to me, and please subscribe, like, and share.

Thanks for watching. Enjoy!

-Jesse

That’s our coastal effect storms you see. We get them every day when it’s warm just about. Most local traffic hugs the coast then cuts up to ECP. You should see the banner planes. Those pilots are amazing.

Love the 850! Cool video, Jesse! 🤙🏼 Also, cool tip I recently heard on proximity to t-storms is instead of the general 20 miles away, it’s a better idea to stay 10 miles away per every 10k’ of vertical development.

I have been working at Tyndall AFB for the past few years in the effort to rebuild to be the most tech advanced, largest military base in the world. .. About two months ago I was working on the flight line in about the dead center location. I cant remember the reason I was looking at my Flight radar 24 app on my phone but the only plane close was a Honda Jet. It was was flying at 3000 AGL on a direct intersection to my location on the flight line so I knew he was not on approach.. As soon as he got right overhead of the military runway he made a hard left and flew directly to ECP and land on 34 straight in. Also his N number did not show up until after he landed. I looked number up after it displayed. It wasn't military it was private own fpm Knoxville TN . My question is how did that plane fly into military airspace a 3000ft? I watch 16's, 22's and 35's take off all day and do unrestricted climbs and this is the only civilian plane I have ever seen in that airspace. Great content BTW I subscribed!

Whoa- did you move up to a TBM? Nothing sounds cooler than a turbine spooling up. Congrats!

Nice video to watch while I eat my Saturday morning oatmeal! I appreciated the technique talk on the power settings as well as some of the weather avoidance talk. Nice going. You may know a friend of mine who operates a flight school at Boerne Stage. Casey. Keep up the good work! (not easy to fly the planes, manage the family and film it all at the same time!)
