Elon Musk Confirms Model Y Getting NEW Solid-State Battery. Everything You Need to Know Here. Can battery-powered cars truly match the convenience of gasoline-powered ones? The future of EVs undeniably hinges on battery technology. Currently, all EVs rely on Lithium-Ion batteries, but these have significant limitations. Automakers are now focusing on a more promising upgrade—solid-state batteries.
Elon Musk Confirms Model Y Getting NEW Solid-State Battery. Everything You Need to Know Here. Samsung SDI, the company behind some of Tesla's 4680 battery cells, has recently begun testing new solid-state batteries, likely destined for Tesla's future models, specifically the 2025 Model Y Juniper. These solid-state batteries are expected to be smaller, lighter, cooler, and safer than the current cells used in EVs, boasting immense potential and capability. So, what exactly is this new battery, and why is everyone buzzing about it? How does it outperform Tesla's current batteries? Let's dive into that in today's discussion.
Elon Musk Confirms Model Y Getting NEW Solid-State Battery. Everything You Need to Know Here. What Exactly Are Solid-State Batteries, and Why Are They the Future of EVs?
Unlike traditional Lithium-Ion batteries, which use a liquid electrolyte sandwiched between the anode and cathode, solid-state batteries eliminate this liquid altogether. This is a major change, as much of the weight and density in conventional battery packs comes from that heavy liquid. Instead, solid-state batteries employ a stable solid electrolyte, often made from glass or ceramic, which drastically reduces the space required and makes cooling far more efficient. In essence, these batteries are named for their fully solid components—both the anode and cathode are metal, with a solid electrolyte sandwiched in between, allowing ions to flow freely. In fact, solid-state batteries, particularly those based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), combine the inherent safety of LFP cathode materials with the added stability of a solid electrolyte.

This clip is educational but nothing in here shows Elon Musk confirming the solid state battery in the Juniper Model Y. Getting tired of these headlines just to get us to listen to you.

They've been talking about solid state batteries forever. I think we are still like 5 years out until it hits the masses.

I own a Tesla Y long range topically it takes 15 to 20 min to charge at a supercharger it took 10 min to fill up my ICE car. Not a deal breaker. The Tesla will tell you what supercharger to go to on a trip. Love the car.

Charging time is only important on trips, home charging from 12AM to 9 AM is efficient, to charge my car 9 hours at 11KW 240vac will give me 99KW which is plenty to go from 0 to 100% in model Y which really never happens, we only charge up to 80% and we set the charge time and just plug in overnight and every morning we have about 250 mile range, We need Batteries to last 20 years

1. Longer life span and higher energy density. Plus 2. Faster charging capabilities. The answer is 3, all of the above.

Do you believe solid-state batteries will solve range anxiety for EVs, or are there still other factors, like infrastructure, that will need to be addressed before they become mainstream?

Nano One Materials has a patented technology that makes Cathode Battery Cells with the one pot process, that reduces the Cost to make these super Cathode Battery with no negative wast to the environment. Dan Blondal CEO & Founder should win the Nobel Prize, he is a Genius.

Given the significant weight reduction in solid-state batteries, do you think EV manufacturers will be able to extend range and efficiency without sacrificing too much in terms of vehicle size and comfort?

I'm excited about the solid-state technology, but I still have concerns about its scalability for mass production. Time will tell.

How do you think solid-state batteries will affect the EV market's overall pricing structure? Will the initial high costs slow down adoption, or will consumers pay the premium for the benefits they provide?

1 because we stop to eat at a supercharger which gives us ample time to charge.
