The Better Alternative - Conveyor Belt

In the fall of 2009, students with Design For America at Northwestern University noticed that in their dining halls hundreds of gallons of fresh water was used to clear food scraps off of plates, before they were even placed in the dish washer.

The Challenge: "How can we get students to instinctively scrape their scraps off of their plates?"

They implemented their solution at one of their dining halls this past winter, and are working towards getting it installed permanently. Small peanuts?

Their ultimate goal is to get their solution installed at every cafeteria across the country with this type of conveyor belt, potentially saving millions of gallons of fresh water each day.
