Gene's not excusing his behavior. He's human with real emotions, and regardless of how he feels about him NOW, he had a real connection with this dude. Although deserving of what's to come, his actions doesn't just affect PUFF. he's feeling for his mom, kids, their mom's having to explain this shit. It's a lot.
