This composition is essentially a profound tribute to Mr.Bach's wife who had shortly before died. He was away at the time and so by the time he had returned she had already been buried. Imagine. He wrote this masterpiece shortly thereafter.
From the grieving heart of Mr. Bach we have this flawless execution by Mr. Lopes. This piece is intricate and at its heart an emotive mist of sadness, a longing for one never to be reclaimed nor forgotten. His sadness is heard in each note.
Lovely playing and respectful of the source of the composition. Mr. Lopes pays respect here with an intimate interpretation of one of the most subtle compositions in music for any instrument and one of the most difficult ones for the guitar. The guitar in the video has a wonderfully clear tone.

Talvez devido a seu compromisso como educador e professor (e seu "low profile" ou simplicidade como um ser humano desprovido de qualquer narcisismo - a minha opinião) não se percebia realmente que ele também é um artista e concertista de nível mundial e não fica nada a dever aos grandes nomes canônicos do passado e presente. Bravo! Tive o privilégio de ouvir essa peça pelo Amigo Edson Lopes nos anos 70 quando ele participou de um concurso na cidade de Piracicaba onde ele deveria ter seus 15 anos, e nesse concurso ele venceu com uma grande diferença em relação ao segundo lugar e praticamente com a mesma performance!!!...
